Welcome & FAQ
Welcome!
This website is designed to be a handy reference for people who are taking steps to improve their own digital skills with respect to developing and delivering learning activities. It has been designed with museum educators in mind, but will have much broader relevance as such skills are transferable across a multitude of roles, disciplines and sectors.
Each entry in the glossary will contain: a brief introduction providing an overview of the theme in the title; an image or illustration representing the entry in some way; a more in-depth discussion of the topic in the context of learning and heritage education in particular; some suggested 'next steps' for anyone who wants to continue to develop their understanding; and some 'further reading' separated into two categories: related entries in the Digital Skills Glossary, and useful links to sources on the wider internet. Please also see the About page for more information about the motivations behind the Glossary and its inception.
FAQs
The initialism 'FAQ' usually stands for 'Frequently Asked Questions', but as the Glossary is shiny and new nobody has asked any yet, so here it stands for 'Foreseeably Asked Questions'. If you have a question that isn't covered here, either scroll down and post it as a comment, or contact me and ask it and I'll make sure this page is updated.
How do I...
- ... report a mistake?
The easiest way is to post a comment on the offending entry, making sure you describe exactly what's wrong and what would make it right. You can always contact me another way if you prefer, but please make sure you let me know exactly which entry has the problem (copying and pasting the URL is the easiest way to do that). - ... request a topic?
If you think an entry is missing from the Glossary you can either leave a comment on one of the existing entries or contact me and let me know what you think should be added. Better still, write an entry yourself and submit it! - ... suggest a link from one entry to another?
If you think a Glossary entry would benefit from a link to another (e.g., because some visitors may find it helpful to have a quick link for a term used to explain a topic) please post a comment on the entry that needs the link, including the name of the post (or even better, a URL) that it should link to. - ... submit an entry?
This site is about learning, and the best way to make sure you understand anything is to teach it to someone else, so I'm absolutely up for guest contributions. Check out the Contribute page for some guidance and a submission form.
Who...
- ...are you?
Hi! I'm Tom, I'm a maths teacher and museum learning consultant in the UK, based in the East Midlands but operating anywhere in the world thanks to the power of digital technologies. You can find out more about me or contact me regarding maths & museum learning projects at tkbriggs.co.uk or on LinkedIn. - ... are you to talk about digital skills, learning and heritage education?
See 'About me'.
Why...
- ... is there something missing from this list?
Because I either forgot about it or didn't realise you'd want to know! I'd appreciate it if you asked your question in the comments (or contact me) so that I can put this right for you.
